How to Make a Potent Cannabis Salt for Seasoning Your Favorite Foods!

Are you bored of ye ole cannabis butter and infused honey cannabis infusions for all your recipes? We hear ya. Give this simple cannabis salt mixture a nibble. There’s no end to the possibilities and a fantastic way to micro-dose with cooking cannabis salt.

Best part, it can be added to your favorite cocktails! Mango margarita with a Frosted Lime Kush Salt rim perhaps?

We consider this one of our basic recipes and we classify it as a tincture.

Why?

It uses a cannabis tincture as it’s base infusion technique. We evaporate it off the liquid leaving the therapeutic crystals on the salt.

It’s such a versatile way to enhance your every day sea salt into a bang of flavor and cannabinoid health benefits.

What are Some Cannabis Salt Benefits?

Cannabis weed salt

Cannasalt, like other edibles, has many benefits. For those of you utilizing cannabis for medicinal benefits, it’s a discrete and simple way to reap the power of the plant. It is readily available and has a longer expiration date than cannabis-infused butter. Some other benefits are:

  • Dosing is a cinch – With a little bit of experimenting, you can work out your specific dosage. This makes it easier to control when you are not at home and need some therapeutic benefits. Since most recipes call for a “touch of” salt, we set up a microdose of around 1 tsp at 2.5 to 8mg potency. Check out our potency calculator to help.
  • Simple to store – Store it like… well salt! The shelf live of cannasalt is extremely long and it doesn’t break down as easily when exposed to light or air. We suggest six months and maybe a year. Really, as long as you dry and store it correctly, the only worry is the degradation of the cannabinoids and terpenes.
  • It is versatile – Like ordinary salt, cannasalt can be added to anything. It’s salt, y’all. When have you decided, “no, this recipe doesn’t need a pinch of salt?” There is a lighter cannabis taste to this approach (and depends on the strain you choose). Therefore, it can be used as a substitute in any recipe you like.
  • Nice and discrete – Cannasalt looks just like regular salt that makes it perfect for carrying along when you have commitments and events to attend. If you need to microdose, weed salt comes in very handy.

A Few Important Notes:

  • Dealing with alcohol and heat – just be careful! Don’t risk burning the house down as alcohol vapors are extremely dangerous. We prefer to leave the salt and tincture mixture spread out on a baking dish over night. We have no scientific research here, but we notice a difference in liquid and odor. Alcohol has way of evaporating off over time. Makes it a bit safer.
  • Don’t burn the salt – if it get’s too brown during the baking time, you may lose some potency in your cannabinoids.
  • Use course salt – we prefer course salt to help minimize the salt dissolving. Wanna be fancy? Some pink Himalayan salt is what all the cool kids are using these days.

  • 2/3 cup Course sea salt You can always grind to a finer grain after the infused salt cools
  • 1/4 cup Grain alcohol

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees. No more than 220 degrees to protect the cannabinoids and terpenes. We are not decarb, just evaporate the liquid.
  • Add the decarbed cannabis and alcohol to a mason jar. Let sit for at least one hour (prefer three hours) in the freezer.
  • Strain cannabis mixture into a mason jar.
  • Add the sea salt into the mason jar with the liquid and shake for three to five minutes.
  • Spread the sea salt and alcohol onto a lined baking sheet. Cook for 15 minutes.
  • Mix the salt after 15 minutes and cook an additional 15 minutes. Or until the liquid has evaporated and salt is dry.
  • Place salt mixture in you favorite storage. We love bamboo salt holders or a small mason jar.

Notes

Depending on your cannabis, this recipe should yield between 2.5 and 8mg per teaspoon of salt. Perfect for microdosing.
Important: you are working with alcohol, be careful when heating. Leave out over night and you can leave the oven open for extra safety.

unless i overlooked it this is a very dangerous recipe. DO NOT EVAPORATE ALCOHOL INDOORS. DO NOT EVAPORATE ALCOHOL IN AN OVEN. alcohol vapors are toxic, flammable and explosive.

what you can do is make a “simple syrup” of 1:1 water:salt (or sugar, just like regular simple syrup), and then add the alcohol to that mixture and burn off on a hot plate outside with a breeze and open space. don’t breathe in the fumes.

What is the cooking temperature for the alcohol and the salt? Is it 200° or 220°? I just don’t wanna make a mistake with cooking alcohol
