Use the Edible Calculator to Control Your Dosage

Everyone has their own first-time-with-edibles story.

Always pretty similar too. Something along the lines of, “I couldn’t tell if I was sitting or standing. I’m never having that much again. But I didn’t hate it.”

Everyone nods in agreement – with a memorable grin on their face.

This first experience is right around the time we learn about dosage and going low and slow.

Low and Slow Edible Dosage

Almost a motto here at BeTheHippy. Everything is more enjoyable in moderation.

You can’t go wrong if you go with a low dose to start. Slowly scale up as needed. Always wait at least an hour.

When just beginning on your edible adventures – or hell, whenever you are cooking with cannabis – it’s best to target a 5mg intake of your cannabinoid (especially THC)

Some call it micro dosing, we call it scaling up. Or intelligent scaling.

Low-dose is meant to enhance, never impair.

It should be noted that 5mg is a target since knowing the exact amount is difficult to test for. You’d have to send it off to a lab.

We are just an education site, so always best to chat with professionals and get medical advice from your doctor before exploring.

Even knowing your exact potency, there is always a margin of variance. Different cooking techniques can increase or decrease potency.

So stay wise out there.

How to Use the Cannabis Calculator

Our calculator runs two calculations for you.

  1. Infusions: The potency of your infusion when extracting cannabinoids.
  2. Edibles: Total edible potency for dosage per serving.

We wanted a simple and flexible way to know an estimate of our CBD and THC cannabinoids potency.

You can quickly convert your plants cannabinoid – based on overall content percentage – into your total infusion potency.

When you are ready to cook, add in your recipe servings and total infusion to get an idea of your edibles.

Examples for Edibles Calculator

We’ve curated some of the most common baked, tinctured, and created recipes and amounts to help get a clearer idea of what your first bite might create for your body buzz.

Please remember, this is not exact science as there are a lot of variables that can impact these numbers. Why we preach the low and slow model with any home made edible infused goods.

Free Tincture Calculator Example

For this example, we will use a mason jar and create 2 cups of tincture. We expect to use the tincture in drop form and for gummy bears!

Flower potency: 21%

Flower amount: .50 oz (14 grams)

Tincture alcohol amount: 2 cups

Total tincture: ~2,940.0mg

Per teaspoon: ~26.5mg

Per drop: 0.50mg (1 teaspoon = ~76 drops)

Edible Dosage Calculator Example

For this example, we will be using 2 tablespoons of the final butter (not including the regular butter you will also need) in a magic brownie recipe that yields 20 brownies.

Flower potency: 20%

Flower amount: .50 oz (14 grams)

Butter amount: 3 cups

Total Butter: 2,800.0 mg

Per tablespoon: ~58.5 mg

2 tablespoons of butter used rendering 20 brownie pieces: 8 mg / each brownie
