Cannabis Seasonings

3 min read

Cannabis-infused seasonings — salts, peppers, and herb blends — add measured doses of THC or CBD to any dish as simply as reaching for the salt shaker. They're one of the easiest infusion products to make and use.

All seasoning recipes start with decarboxylated cannabis. The decarbed flower is ground fine and mixed with dry seasonings that act as both carrier and flavor.

Cannabis Salt

The simplest and most versatile cannabis seasoning. Cannabis salt works on anything — eggs, steak, popcorn, avocado toast, roasted vegetables.

  1. 01

Grind decarbed cannabis to a fine powder

Use a spice grinder or mortar and pestle. The finer the grind, the more evenly it distributes through the salt.

  2. 02

Combine with coarse sea salt or kosher salt

Start with a 1:4 ratio (1 part cannabis to 4 parts salt). Adjust based on desired potency.

  3. 03

    Mix thoroughly

Stir or shake in a sealed jar until completely uniform. The cannabis should be invisible in the salt.

  4. 04

Store in a shaker or sealed jar

Label with the ratio and estimated mg per teaspoon. Keeps for 6+ months.

Dosage warning

At a 1:4 ratio using 20% THC flower: 1 teaspoon of cannabis salt contains approximately 15–20 mg THC — that's a strong dose. Start with a small pinch (under 1/4 teaspoon) and wait 1–2 hours before adding more. A full teaspoon could be overwhelming for most people. Adjust your ratio to hit your target dose and use our dosage calculator for precise numbers.

Infused Herb Blends

Combine finely ground decarbed cannabis with dried herbs for a multi-purpose seasoning rub.

Italian blend: Cannabis + dried oregano + basil + garlic powder + onion powder + thyme. Use on pasta, pizza, and roasted vegetables.

BBQ rub: Cannabis + smoked paprika + brown sugar + garlic powder + cumin + black pepper. Use as a dry rub on ribs, chicken, or brisket before low-and-slow cooking.

Everything blend: Cannabis + sesame seeds + poppy seeds + dried garlic + dried onion + sea salt. Use on avocado toast, bagels, or as a finishing garnish.

Cannabis Pepper

Mix finely ground decarbed cannabis with freshly ground black pepper in a 1:3 ratio. Black pepper contains piperine, which some research suggests may enhance cannabinoid absorption. Use as a finishing pepper on any dish.

Usage Tips

  • Use as a finishing seasoning: Add after cooking, not during. High heat can degrade cannabinoids.
  • Pair with fat: Cannabinoids absorb better with fat. Use on buttered toast, oily dishes, or recipes with cannabutter or infused oil.
  • Start low: It's easy to over-season. Start with a small pinch and wait 1–2 hours to gauge effects before adding more.

Storage

Cannabis seasonings stored in airtight containers in a cool, dark place last 6–12 months. The dry salt and herb carriers act as natural preservatives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I taste the cannabis in the seasonings?+
At a 1:4 or lower ratio, the cannabis flavor is minimal — the salt and herbs dominate. Higher ratios will have a more noticeable herbal taste.
Do I need to decarb for seasonings?+
Yes. Raw cannabis contains THCA, not THC. Without decarboxylation, your seasonings won't produce any psychoactive effects.
Can I use cannabis sugar instead of salt?+
For sweet applications, yes — see our cannabis sugar guide. Cannabis salt is for savory dishes.
